Alumni News! Several Teachers were invited to a premiere for a former student's first feature length film! The filmmaker is Eduardo A. Flores and it was held at Cinema Under the Stars in Mission Hills.
Congratulations Eduardo! Here's what some of your proud teachers had to say: You may also recognize other CVHS Alumni, Ryan Octaviano, Mia Almanza, Rae Leonado, and Julian Osuna. As a former film student and media professional, let me tell you that creating a full length feature film is in and of itself an accomplishment. I could elaborate more about the vision and creativity of Eduardo's work, but that is almost beside the point. We were absolutely honored to be asked to attend. As a film teacher specifically, my heart is full. The opportunity that we have to inspire and lead students to achieve greatness is an incredibly special privilege. The work that we all do is important, impactful, and launching the futures of hundreds and thousands of young people every year. Last night was a reminder of the importance of our work. I consider this a success for all to revel in, we do make a difference. I am excited to see what Eduardo does next! - Jeff Frank, Video production Teacher SCPA/CVHS
It was a great event & I was honored to have been invited! My former students really enjoyed the experience of making a feature length film, & the movie premiere spectacle, just a couple of months before they will graduate from San Diego State University was something that they will remember for the rest of their lives! - Eric Byers, Teacher CVHS
I had Eduardo and Ryan as Drama students. I remember when Eduardo got the spark to do film. Thank you to all who poured into their lives and for sharing this with those of us who were a small part of their amazing stories! - Sharon Maley, Theater Teacher, SCPA/CVHS It was such a proud moment for us teachers. Eduardo was a former student of mine who expressed interest in the film industry from the moment he stepped foot into my classroom. To see him grow as a professional is what reminds me why this profession is so rewarding. He did such an excellent job that night as he made sure to greet all of his guests, acknowledge the hard work that his actors and crew members put into the film, and even answered all the questions that were asked after the film. Eduardo mentioned to me a couple of times throughout the years that I was “an inspiration to him” but that night, he was my inspiration. I wish nothing but the best for him and all of our Chula Vista Spartans. - Christopher Turk II, Teacher CVHS

Melody Brown (Ambre) - Art '98 This program gave me a voice. I learned through the respect of my instructors, and their facilitation of meaningful projects that what I thought and felt mattered and that my point of view was important. CVHS SCPA was a wonderful place to grow and learn about myself and the world. Not only that, but the curriculum truly prepared me for the rigor of college courses. We were treated like real artists and taught by skilled artists/teachers. I have continued in the art field, do frequent work by commission (painting/metalwork/photography), and have also become a high school art teacher in SUHSD! I made that decision because of my experience in the CVHS SCPA program. I want teenagers to know that they have a voice, and one that is important to share- to pay my own experience forward... Thank you to Mr.Thomas Lynn, Ms.Kristen Arrivee and Ms. Vicki Jones-Pittman for being the angels I so needed during a tumultuous time! Blessings!
